Follow some of our basic fire safety tips and lessen your chances of a fire occurring.
Residential Fire Safety 
- Install and test smoke detectors in all living spaces of your home. Check this link out to learn more about smoke detectors.
- Never leave lights on for an extended period of time when you leave.
- Don't leave candles burning when you leave your home. Make sure candles are not too close to items that may burn.
- Never smoke in bed! If you do smoke, make sure the butt is all the way out! Check this link out for more information on smoking.
- Don't use cheap extension cords for extended amounts of time.
- Clean out your dryer lint screen and the vent on a regular basis.
- Keep at least one fire extinguisher on each floor, in addition to one in the kitchen.
- Always use a licensed contractor to perform electrical work in your home.
- Teach children not to play with matches or lighters. Check this link out to learn more about child safety and fire.
- Don't leave food on the stove or in the oven if you will not be home.
Fire Safety For Businesses
- Never use extension cords for on a permanent basis. In addition to being a fire hazard in most cases it is against the fire code.
- Have a fire extinguisher for every 75 feet of travel. Ensure the size is at least 2a10bc as a minimum.
- Get your employees trained in using a fire extinguisher.
- Have regular maintenance done on equipment and machinery.
- Never use candles in a business. It creates a fire hazard and in most cases is against the fire code.
- Do not store items that can burn in electrical rooms or near water heaters.
- Never leave electrical panels and boxes open or exposed.
- Do not store flammable liquids or materials improperly. Always use a flammable liquid storage cabinet.
